First time in Northern India at City Branch .The
Department has the distinction of installing the
first Phacoemulsification unit & Starting IOL
surgery in Ghaziabad. The Department is offering
in-depth study of cases suffering from Cataract
Glaucoma, Low Vision and Contact Lens. There is
also an optical shop for spectacles . The Department
has a team of specialised surgeons & has been
operating Thousands of cases of Cataract using
most modern technique of Micro-Phacoemulsification
with Foldable/Multifocal Lens implantation & retinal
diseases.

CATARACTS
If the lens becomes cloudy, the light reaching
the retina is blurred and distorted, and your
vision is affected. This clouded lens is called
a cataract, and it must be removed before vision
can be restored. A clouded lens can be compared
to a window that is frosted or "fogged" with steam.
Cataracts are not cancerous. They can be treated
with a surgical procedure that has become a fairly
common procedure in the Modern World.
The two most common types of cataracts are: the
cortical cataract and a posterior subcapsular
cataract. Depending on the type of cataract, a
patient will experience different vision problems,
but the most common cataract symptoms include:
- blurring vision
- sensitivity to sunlight or glare while
driving
- double vision in one eye
- poor night vision
- needing brighter light to read
- experiencing fading or yellowing of colors.
- Loss of near sight
What is Cataract?
The human crystalline lens, is the primary focusing
mechanism of the eye is clear. With age, it becomes
cloudy and opaque, thereby hampering vision. Any
opacity in the crystaltine lens is called cataract.
When to get surgery done?
Cataract should be removed when it begins to affect
your daily activities. When glare or blur interfere
while you are driving, it is time to consider
having surgery. DO NOT WAIT FOR THE CATARACT TO
GET MATURE for this may lead to complications
and a more difficult surgery. CATARACT SURGERY
CAN BE PERFORMED IN ANY SEASON.
What is life of intra-ocular lens
normally it outlasts a lifetime .
Micro-Phacoemulsification
Micro-Phacoemulsification is the most modern method
of removing a cataract lens using a sub 2 mm hole
. This surgery is done under Local / Topical anaesthesia
and no stich is applied. So this is least traumatic
to the eye.
The advantages of phacoemulsification are .
1 Early mobility of pt. early visual rehabilitation.
2. Stitchless surgery. 3. Final glasses can be
prescribed after
3 weeks as compared to 10 weeks after conventional
surgery.
Fluorescein-Angiography
F.A. is a technique of studying structure integrity
& patency of blood vessels (especially of retinal
& iris) using a dye fluorescien. This dye after
absorbing the visible light gets activated & emits
radiations which can be visualisd by using special
filters (cobalt-blue). F.A. not only helps in
diagnosis but also helps to plan the treatment
modalities for a particular patients.
Pre-requisities for Fluorescein Angiography
1. Patient should be empty stomach for 4 hours.
2. Fully dilated pupil
Adverse effect of the dye in some patients.
1. Nausea & Vomiting
2. Allergic reactions sometimes
3. Vasovagal shock in rare cases
4. Yellow/red discolouration of urine , skin &
nails which passes off with time approx 36 hrs.
Diabetic Retinopathy
In diabetic retinopathy, Green Laser is used mainly
for treatment. For this only pupillary dilatation
is needed. Green Laser is used to prevent the
progression of the retinopathy, so that the sight
of a person can be maintained.
What is PCO?
In about 10 to 90 percent of patients who have
a cataract removed, the capsule becomes cloudy
several months to years after the original surgery
it is not a complication rather a sequalae of
cataract surgery. Often this condition is referred
to as a "secondary cataract." However, this does
not mean that the patient has another cataract;
it is only the capsule - not the artificial lens
- that has become cloudy.
If this cloudiness blurs your vision, a clear
opening can be painlessly made in the center of
the posterior capsule membrane with a YAG laser.
This procedure is done on an outpatient basis
in about 15 minutes, without injections. This
is the only instance in which a laser can be used
for a cataract-related treatment.
